Description
When it comes to dealing with and navigating change, Always Be Comedy could write a book. Well, curate a programme, certainly. We wish we could say we were thinking of the HG Wells quote: “Adapt or perish,” when it came to being agile once lockdown kicked in, changing the working world forever in the process. However, it was actually the tagline to the largely forgotten 2011 action film Hanna that proved Always Be Comedy’s inspiration: “Adapt or die.” Yes, really. Haven’t seen it? No, not many people did. Sorry. We’re getting sidetracked. Pre-lockdown, we were a small comedy night above a pub in Kennington, south London, but, by navigating change, we adapted and grew, and came out of lockdown a much bigger force. We switched to online almost immediately and, frankly, never looked back. That first-ever online lockdown show boasted a bill to die for: Brett Goldstein, Rachel Parris, Rhys James and Matt Forde. And, across more than 200 online shows, we would end up featured in the Guardian, on Channel 4, Lorraine, BBC News and – yes, really – on The Graham Norton Show. It changed our business forever and – since we all returned to something approaching normality – not only have we returned to our south London home, but we also livestream from there and still host online-only shows. We've gone from one weekly south London night to now being much more agile. We would never have dreamed of such a thing pre-lockdown. Our programme would cover the challenges we faced, the things we got wrong and how we learned and improved from those mistakes (and boy oh boy did we get some things hilariously wrong!) and when we realised Always Be Comedy was getting bigger (and bigger). We would also look to bring along a comedian pal to join in the chat. Our event can be 30 minutes or 60 minutes and cost is dependent on in person or virtual and the comedian we bring along. Now we're fully back post lockdown we'll be adding that journey too! Prices start from £3230.Always Be Comedy .
